Administration of Medication


The aim of this Safe Handling and Administration of Medication Training is to update or impart medication knowledge in accordance with your organisations policies and procedures.

There are two courses available Medication Awareness course and Level 2 Management of Medication.

Medication Awareness- Level 1

This training sessions covers the core information required around medications and how they should be treated, prescribed, dispensed and administered. It will cover the information required for staff to undertake their role in the safe handling of medication. Other key information such as the law and terminology is included to ensure that staff have a fully rounded awareness of medication.

Learning Outcomes

On completion staff will have an improved awareness of their roles and responsibilities in relation to administering medication.

Staff will have a greater understanding of the legislation and regulation surrounded medication in a care setting.

Staff will be able define and understand the 7 R’s of medication administration and their importance in preventing errors.

How Many can Attend Training?

We will run this course for a maximum of 12 participants. This class size is limited to allow all participants to take part in the practical aspects of the course.

Who will Conduct the Training?

All of our expert clinical tutors, are Nurses with an abundance of clinical and complex care experience and knowledge – so you’ll be in great hands!

Course Duration

This is a half day course.

  • CPD hours - 3hrs
  • Participatory hours - 2hrs


Participants will be issued with certificates of attendance valid for a period of 1 year.

There will be a short question paper and the tutor will gauge people’s knowledge and understanding through group work, question and answer sessions.


Level 2 Management of Medication

This course has been designed to enable delegates to develop the essential knowledge and skills for managing medications within a health and social care setting. It is suitable for nurses and carers who are responsible and accountable for dispensing, administering and managing medicines within practice. It will cover key information on laws, legislations, classifications of medicines. It will give staff the opportunity to refresh knowledge on the routes of administration as well as discussing what actions to take when things go wrong.

This course is provided and certified through Protrainings uk . It can be taken as a classroom course or online. Safe-Sure Care advocate using the classroom based course as it allows participants to undertake practical demonstrations.

  • State the correct procedures for safe administration of medicines

  • Demonstrate the correct use of a MAR chart in administering medication
  • Demonstrate correct practices of medications administration. Simulated practice will be used to prove competency. 
  • Gain simulated competency to prepare participants for competencies in their own care environments with their assessors.

This is a full day course.

  • CPD hours - 6hrs


Participants will be issued with certificates of attendance valid for a period of 1 year.

Learners will complete a knowledge assessment at the end of the course, allowing them to demonstrate their understanding of the subject material, it will also equip learners to undertake a competency assessment whilst in their practice setting.
